I am a freelance writer and editor who specializes in science, health and travel. I am a regular contributor to Nature. My work has also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Knowable, Via and AFAR (my favorite story ever). In Oct. 2018, I delivered a TEDx talk at the University of Luxembourg about the mental health struggles of scientists.
A reformed biologist, I studied algae and nitrogen dynamics in Antarctic lakes before the Science Communication program at UC Santa Cruz rescued me from the lab. I live in Billings, Montana, with my wife—the novelist Blythe Woolston—and our menagerie.
